Tahiti, Moorea and Bora Bora | French Polynesia

In April I was lucky enough to have the huge honour of travelling to French Polynesia to photograph a very special elopement. Polynesia had long been a dream destination, and I couldn’t quite believe my eyes when the enquiry landed in my inbox. After lots of emails back and forth, I was booked, and I met lovely Alex and Lisa for the very first time at Charles de Gaulle airport to embark upon a two week adventure, island hopping around Polynesia!

Starting on Tahiti island, we spent a couple of days recovering from the mammoth 25 hour flight from UK – Paris – Los Angeles – Tahiti. This was the most built up of all of the islands, with supermarkets, shopping malls, the town hall, and lots of roosters!

Our next trip was a ferry from Papeete to beautiful, rugged and awesome Moorea. Moorea is quite possibly the most incredible island I’ve ever visited. As soon as you step off the ferry, it feels like you’re in an episode of Lost. With tropical storms one minute and blistering heat the next, thick jungle, jagged peaks and a whole heap of mosquitos who mean business, it felt like another world from Papeete. Here Alex and Lisa held a traditional Polynesian wedding ceremony at sunset within a sacred stone temple overlooking the ocean. The word perfect doesn’t quite cover it.

After a few incredible days there, next up was a flight on a tiny plane from Moorea to Bora Bora, where I was to photograph a very special wedding in a glass-bottomed chapel over a lagoon. Again, this was unbelievably beautiful and I managed to have goosebumps in 35c heat, which was quite a feat.

The wedding photos will be coming up soon, and I’ll start with some travel photos of French Polynesia to begin with. . .
